CarbonPlus biochar facility equipped by CrystalTrade dMRV

We are excited to announce our partnership with Carbon Plus. The innovators behind Malaysia’s first industrial biochar facility in Bukit Selar, Kelantan – the Bukit Selar Carbon Station. This new facility will produce 500 tonnes of high-quality biochar via gasification technology provided by Renewables Plus, from wild, mature bamboo, and Palm Kernel Shell (PKS) – a byproduct of palm oil mills. 

Using our CrystalTrade dMRV (digital Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) solution, Carbon Plus can efficiently track, monitor, and optimize the carbon removal process. Ensuring the generation of CO2 Removal Certificates (CORCs) under the Puro.earth methodology.

By integrating our dMRV technology, Carbon Plus is going to highlight the value of their high-quality carbon credits by the project’s data. Then monitor and scale their carbon removal projects as demand grows in Malaysia and beyond.

Who is Carbon Plus?

Carbon Plus is an innovative leader in biochar project development and implementation. They are pioneers in the industrial-scale conversion of biomass into biochar for carbon sequestration, in Malaysia and the surrounding region. They utilize a gasification process which produces biochar at temperatures exceeding 850˚C, resulting in highly stable biochar. This stable biochar ensures long-term durability in carbon storage and makes the carbon credits generated attractive to buyers.

For Carbon Plus, this facility is a demonstration project, implemented by its subsidiary – Carbon Zero, paving the way for larger-scale biochar facilities in the near future. The Bukit Selar Carbon Station has the capacity to remove 1,200 tonnes of CO2e annually. With plans for larger factories next year, Carbon Plus will become a key player in carbon removal in Southeast Asia.
